Matches - Dot (Slow Fire, Speed or Ultra Speed Dots)

What is Dot Shooting?

The official Dot Target is a natural evolution of the bulls-eye variety. All targets are printed on heavy stock. Shooters aim at a distance of 7 yards at a cluster of three dots contained in an outer circle, with each dot having a diameter slightly less than one quarter of an inch. A target is comprised of ten clusters, with a total of 30 Dots. Anyone who has tried "Dot Shooting" agrees it is a very challenging and exciting experience. Shooters must use the caliber listed on the face of each target. Targets are available in .22 caliber, .38 caliber and .45 caliber. If you shoot a 9mm you must use the .38 target. If you shoot a .40 caliber, a .41 caliber or a .44 caliber, you must use the .45 target. Any pistol or revolver may be used but no free pistols (Olympic type), any sights are permissible, even electronic types and scopes.

For "Slow Fire" the shooter gets 10 shots in 5 minutes. For "Speed Dots" the shooter gets 20 seconds for each 5 shot string, with two strings for each target. For "Ultra Speed Dots" the shooter gets 10 seconds for each 5 shot string, with two strings for each target.

How do you score a target?

Scoring is easy, you receive a point for every Dot hit in a cluster. A bullet hole that touches all three Dots in a cluster also scores an X and could serve as a tie breaker. If no Dots are hit in a cluster, but the bullet hole touches any part of the outer circle or is within the circle without touching a Dot, one point is scored. This means, if you hit one Dot in a cluster you receive 2 points for that cluster. If you hit 2 Dots in a cluster, you receive 3 points for that cluster. If all three Dots are hit in a cluster, you receive 4 points plus an X for that cluster. Each target has a possible of 40 points with 10 Xs.
